Top healthcare professionals to Governor Wolf: time to shut down, start over and do it right

Amid continued spread of the novel coronavirus in Pennsylvania, PennPIRG and top health experts delivered a letter Wednesday to Governor Wolf, calling on him to shut back down, start over with new policies to thwart COVID-19 and do it right. The letter calls for implementing stay at home restrictions to slow the virus, while increasing testing capacity and production of personal protective equipment.

A new report by the PennPIRG Education Fund, Hospital Repair Restrictions, details the challenges that medical professionals face as a result of device manufacturers setting up barriers to repair, and outlines steps to take to help hospitals.

Hospital repair professionals: let us fix life-saving devices, ventilators

In an open letter to Governor Wolf delivered by PennPIRG and signed by 518 hospital repair experts, a plea was made for manufacturers to stop withholding what technicians need to fix medical equipment including ventilators. The effort is part of PennPIRG’s Right to Repair Campaign, which aims to remove unnecessary barriers to repair that drive up costs for product owners and increase electronic waste.

Health groups ask Sen. Casey to protect emergency workers in next stimulus

50 health groups sent a letter to Sen. Casey on July 2nd thanking him for supporting the Medical Supply Transparency and Delivery Act, which would establish central, transparent coordination of the medical supply chain during the COVID-19 crisis. The groups are also asking Senator Casey to urge Senate leadership to include the legislation in the next coronavirus stimulus package.
